The Day of the Dead
Diary entry on February 1, 2003:
I am devastated. Kalpana Chawla is dead and so is the first Israeli astronaut on board the Columbia. All seven on board.. gone to a place farther than space. I can't even begin to imagine the plight of their families. I, an ordinary girl, cried but what about them? Oh God! Give strength and courage to the bereaved families and may the souls of all seven astronauts rest in peace forever. Amen.
Little did I know then that exactly two years and two days after this unfortunate day, I was going to witness the loss of another phenomenal woman.. but this time around.. much more close to my heart.. and experience bereavement up close and personal.. for the first time.
