History Reinvented
What a match and I, the unlucky one, did not get to see a single ball bowl. Internet, however offered some respite. 872 runs scored in one day! WOW!Herschelle Gibbs (see picture) was the man of the moment scoring 175 runs off 111 balls. Let us all spare a thought for Ricky (hitting 164 off 105 balls) and the gang though.
I couldn't contain my excitement when my dad told me about the proceedings at the Wanderers. The target 435 with Southi likely to beat the world champs and clinch the series. Aah!
Kudos to all including Australia's Mick Lewis who suffered the most conceding all but 113 runs in his 10 overs - the worst figures ever and the first time a bowler has gone for more than 100 in a 50-over match. Having always loved the team, the title 'chokkers' never really went well with me. Fittingly enough, the headline in the Johannesburg Star was "438-9: Choke on this, Aussies". Only wish that Lance Klusener were a part of the team as well.
