Liar Liar
Doesn't the world go around on trust? One would assume the same holds true for all our relationships - spatial and temporal - as well. So what if you catch someone close to you lying? I reckon feelings of disbelief and sadness would follow. So, this must be how Oprah Winfrey felt when the author of one of her favourite books (James Frey and 'A Million Little Pieces' respectively) confessed to have "embellished a few facts so that it would make for compelling reading."I, for one, do not approve of non-fiction being "embellished". The article in yesterday's 'The Hindu' raised the question 'Why are we so eager to crown heroes and look for happy endings?' Well, I reckon it could be because of the volatility of our tumultuous times.

Just as Oprah claimed to have been cheated by Frey, I was pleasantly cheated (no surprised actually) by my sis' reaction to the same. She ever so jubilantly told me about this book she was going to buy (and subsequently bought)having heard Oprah praise it and read the first chapter online and pass it on to me (also yesterday). No credit for guessing which book. Thankfully, she knew about the controversy surrounding it and did not share my reservations about the lie. She did not care so much as long as it made an interesting read!
There you have it. Every man/woman for himself/himself to decide whether to forgive the author or not for lying about being in jail and being involved in a horrific car crash, which killed one of his closed friends. As for me, I am getting back to the real world (so to speak) of reading about management theorists for the time being.
