Catch 22

We all, in the course of our journeys in this world, develop 'maps' * along with certain preconceived notions and embedded in them are our expectations therefrom.

So as I stepped into the 'real world' with such notions neatly concretized in my memory bank, needless to say that anything even slightly askew was nothing less than a RUDE SHOCK.

If unpunctuality wasn't enough, the very first sermon we got was not on effectiveness mind you or say organisational goals but on CORRUPTION!

Then I read in The Hindu (picking it up after three odd months as it seemed to have moved down a few rungs in my priority list) :-

We all live in the same imperfect universe. It is smug and dishonest to expect ABC to inhabit a different moral universe to the imperfect one the rest of us live in.
As a society, we seem to be living through a collective suspension of seriousness about it. We wish for the end but persistently ignore the means.

Everybody's ordinary life is littered with compromises, inconsistent behaviour and morally questionable decisions. It's far easier to say what you are against than what you are for.

So there you go. Now what is an unassuming person 'in the system' to do? Wallow in self pity or ignore the ubiquitous malaise? I somehow prefer the latter!

* From the book 'The Road Less Travelled' by M. Scott Peck.
