EMANCIPATION

I am far from ever turning into a feminist in this lifetime but every once in a while, the glass ceiling overshadowing the fairer sex in all walks of life just gets to me.

The following words of Kasturba Gandhi that I read in Sabarmati Ashram struck a chord:

The boycott of alcohol and foreign clothes is a task women have to do. Men are not blessed with the kind of common sense we have, for we understand the language of sorrow better than men.

What a beautiful truth!

I feel like bowing my head to the GREAT WONDER that is a woman.

Candice Bushnell in her book, 'Sex & the City' talks about women who are like men (read insensitive, insincere amd forgetful). My initial reaction was what's wrong with that?! The moment we even as much as evince an intention of breaking through the invisible cocoon, THUG! all hell breaks loose.

This brings me to my favourite issue concerning women, one that would pervade my life as well: Working women. How do you balance yourself on a bayblade ladies?

With Jostein Gaarder's 'Sophie's World' by my side these days, I come to know what stalwarts of yore thought about us.

Plato believed that women could govern 'Utopia' just as affectively as men. Women, he asserted, have exactly the same powers of reasoning as men, provided they get the same training and are exempt from child rearing and housekeeping.

Ya, like that would happen, EVER!!

His disciple, Aristotle was not so accomodating. He, on the other hand, believed a woman to be an 'unfinished man.'

They say that behind every successful man there is a woman. I am of the opinion that "whoever said that must have been drinking" because the truth goes something like this:

BEHIND EVERY SUCCESSFUL MAN, THERE IS AN UNSUCCSESSFUL WOMAN!

In fact, am tempted to pitch in that behind every SUCCESSFUL WOMAN, there is NO MAN!

Here's hoping that I find some takers of this radical viewpoint but nothing can dissuade me from feeling this way rather strongly.

This is not to, in any manner, demean all my sisters staying at home. A house is like a machine, one needs to be 'at work' to turn it into a home. From washing clothes and utensils to cleaning up and buying groceries, it involves task and time management. And let's not even talk about kids eh! So how does one do it all? What comes first? Is one able to give equal weightage to both spheres?

Moving on, I know you may call it the 'commodification of women' but I simply love those 21st century women who are not shy of revealing their desires and voicing their opinion ever so candidly with a devil-may-care attitude.

Thus, I love the following song 'Buttons' by PCD and let's not even talk about the video!

I'm telling you loosen up my buttons baby
But you keep fronting
Saying what you going do to me
But I ain't seen nothing.

Typical
Hardly the type I fall for
I like when the physical
Don't leave me asking for more
I'm a sexy mama
Who knows just how to get what I wanna
What I want to do is spring this on you
Back up all of the things that I told you.

You've been saying all the right things all night long
But I can't seem to get you over here to help take this off
Baby, can't you see?
How these clothes are fitting on me
And the heat coming from this beat
I'm about to blow,
I don't think you know

You say you're a big boy
But I can't agree
'Cause the love you said you had
Ain't been put on me
I wonder
If I'm just too much for you
Wonder
If my kiss don't make you just
Wonder
What I got next for you
What you want to do?
Take a chance to recognize that this could be yours
I can see, just like most guys that your game don't please
Baby, can't you see? How these clothes are fitting on me
And the heat coming from this beat
I'm about to blow
I don't think you know.

I'm telling you loosen up my buttons baby
But you keep fronting
Saying what you going do to me
But I ain't seen nothing.

Believe it or not, this just came in with the subject - A Wife is a Wife, No Matter Who the Hell YOU ARE..
