Re-modelling
Gandhiji taught us an invaluable lesson by using a conspicuous animal. In this day and age, no one seems to forget that one should not see, hear and say bad things. However, the metaphor of the three monkeys has been stretched to a great extent.
So as we would be celebrating this day as the International Day of Non-Violene from next year, I wonder what the younger generation makes of this day. Do they celebrate it as just another holiday or do they really know the significance of this day for our nation? A few years back, I participated in an All-India essay competition on the topic -' Who killed Gandhi?' Answer - Nathuram Godse one is tempted to say but as I attempted to write it, I realized just how liitle I knew about this great man.
The reason of this particular post is not to get into the nitty-gritty of the untimely demise of the father of our nation but to bring out the fact of his undeniable presence in our lives even after so long.
So as my mother bid (good)bye to me, her parting words of wisdom were that of three directions to me, "just like Gandhiji's three monkeys":
1. Drink one whole glass of water as I get up in the morning to be followed by countless others throughout the day.
2. Wash my face and eyes as often as possible.
3. Eat atleast one fruit everyday without fail.
Considering the fact that I am suffering from conjuctivitis since last evening, order no. 2 is being followed to the word. As for the rest, I hereby promise to abide by them in the name of the father of our nation on his 138th birth anniversary!
